picking this up again and hopefully finish this week.

While this is a biography and thus rather dense with dates of events and names etc. I found it still very interesting to read. Halil managed to really tell the story of Mustafa Kemal. Carefully collecting sources and trying to carefully tell the tales of the mythos from evidence. He provides references to all the material and also context into other historic events and figures of the time. Really interesting to read the implications of the colonial powers and the demise of the ottoman empire in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The book helps connecting the dots of my rather sparse knowledge of recent european history.

Very dense and interesting biography about the founder of the Turkish Republic. It describes his remarkable achievements as a politician, revolutionary and soldier but also pays attention to his flaws.

Sehr spannendes Buch finde ich. Endlich mal gelernt was Mustafa Kemal Atatürk für'n krasser Typ war.

Bisher eher Grundsätzliches noch als Einführung. Mal sehen ob das noch spannender wird.

This is going to be exciting. Reading this for the third time now.

This was marvelous again. A bit sluggish at the beginning, but got better with everything page. Now off to the last part of the trilogy "Death's end".

Third time reading this one. Can't wait

Even on the third read-through I discovered (or re-discovered) new aspects and details. Still one of the most amazing books for me. Unputdownable

Good read. I personally liked the historical discourse of liberalism and context Fukuyama provided.
